Eagerly devoured it on East bank of Simmond’s. Breathtaking! This covers the coastal marshes between Cley and Salthouse and is made up of these two sites combined. It should only be used when sightings were made walking between the two and they cannot be separated.

450 Dark-bellied Brent Goose (Eye Field - rough estimate), Pale Bellied Brent Goose (David Griffiths) (106933 bytes) Pale Bellied Brent Goose (David Griffiths) (105965 bytes) 1 Pale-bellied Brent Goose (with Dark Bellied Brent in Eye field - ta to GF. Actually quite hard to pick this one out as all actively feeding and moving through vegetation and hollows. Seemingly much aggression towards this bird at times.), 1 Egyptian Goose (Watling Water), 650 Wigeon (around reserve), 19 Gadwall (N Scrape), 24 Pintail (Initially nil on N Scrape then 9 + 15 flying in from high NW and coming down to the scrape), 20 Shoveler (Pats), 73 Shoveler (a good number on N Scrape), 2 Common Scoter (females off CG), 6 Red-breasted Merganser (females flew west mid PM), 15 Red-throated Diver (Brief seawatch AM with 11 east and 4 on sea), 7 Little Grebe (on Main Drain early morning), 1 Great Crested Grebe (On sea off CG), 1 Red Kite (over North Foreland early PM), 6 Marsh Harrier (different birds through the day), 1 Peregrine Falcon (large female seen a couple of times PM. Wonderful sallies against Mallard on Billy's Wash and waders etc on Simmonds, and several interactions with some of the sub-adult Marsh Harriers pre-roost.), 9 Avocet (Pats), 45 Ringed Plover (Flying west but strangely across the northern element of the Eye Field.), 140 Dunlin (approx in three loose groups flying west before 09:00), 4 Ruff (Pats), 23 Curlew (Cleaning up and preening on Watling Water), 3 Turnstone (on beach at CG including the bird with injured wing), 1 Waxwing (in area of St Nicholas Church Salthouse at about 10:00), 3 Song Thrush (Walsey Hills), 1 Redwing (Walsey Hills), 1 Cetti's Warbler (singing in CW drain east of VC), 1 Jay (in VC carpark), 6 Bullfinch (Walsey Hills), 28 Snow Bunting (6 initially in the scrub north of N Scrape and later 28 around Shingle Ridge ) [David Griffiths]

(EM)), 2 Dark-bellied Brent Goose (Pair with ‘Green’ CR on both legs reported on Eyefield again, pers con.), 17 Pintail (+, Small group of 5 on Simmonds, incl 3 drakes plus 14 churned off North Scrape, stretching their wings before dropping back in.), 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull (‘Intermedius’), 2 Caspian Gull (1st Win (eagle-eyed EM) plus 2nd Win. Both in with reasonable light, despite the dull overcast conditions. Different 2nd Win to the birds of late. Both in scope together. Once again worth scrutinising the roost.) [Graham Fellows]

1 Water Rail (Foraging through reed-bed front of Daukes.), 200 Golden Plover (+, Spooked off Eye Field.), 250 Lapwing (+, Constantly being churned off by large female Peregrine, Microlight flyover and Marsh Harrier.), 4 Ruff (Mixed in with roosting Lapwing, Simmond’s.), 1 Caspian Gull (3rd Win in early but all too short, churned off by two Microlight’s flying over Simmond’s. A large individual not seen before. Yet another addition to the current run of magnetic Cach’s. A delight.) [Graham Fellows]

, 08:00 to 16:15, Cool start with WNW winds spritely then moderating to zero by mid morning. A mad January day with +10 degrees C and feeling warmer.

600 Dark-bellied Brent Goose (On fields south of Walsey Hills AM and intent on stripping emergent crop!), Shelduck (David Griffiths) (68236 bytes) 50 Shelduck (at least across scrapes), Wigeon (David Griffiths) (99967 bytes) 800 Wigeon (Reserve wide), 500 Teal (Reserve wide), 2 Common Scoter (West), 6 Red-throated Diver (East), 2 Great Crested Grebe (on sea), 5 Marsh Harrier (different birds and ages through the day - not around though for roosting birds.), 1 Sparrowhawk (large female again terrorising scrapes mid AM), 2 Kestrel (Males - sparring and calling over woods), 1 Peregrine Falcon (one out on bank between Arnolds and Serpentine in the morning and possibly different bird on Billy's Wash fences PM), 1 Water Rail (in front of Daukes late PM), 10 Avocet (Pats - still strange to see them here but feeding well and intent on being here when the water levels drop.), 60 Golden Plover (Eye Field), 300 Lapwing (Reserve wide - mainly on grassland east of East Bank.), 12 Curlew (8 Eye Field, 4 Arnolds), 1 Caspian Gull (3rd winter on Simmonds - GF finder - soon pushed off by the microlight flying display team. ), Tawny Owl (David Griffiths) (147606 bytes) 1 Tawny Owl (One at roost Blakeney (west) during lunchtime sojourn away from reserve duties. Clearly both enjoying the warm sunshine.), 1 Kingfisher (flew across Pats towards main reedbeds), 3 Skylark (at least three in full song and flight - Eye Field, Serpentine and behind VC. Quite mad!), 3 Song Thrush (Walsey Hills), 1 Cetti's Warbler (singing full song - weird for time of year!), 20 Bearded Tit (approx coming and going around path to Bishops Hide and taking grit at times from path - about time we put up a grit tray somewhere to both see them and avoid disturbing them when we walk along to the hide!!), Long Tailed Tit (David Griffiths) (122307 bytes) 18 Long-tailed Tit (flocking at Walsey Hills. Aggressive behaviour from some. ? weather related.), 2 Jay (Walsey Hills), 12 Greenfinch (at least around feeders), 2 Bullfinch (male and female at Walsey Hills AM), 28 Snow Bunting (Shingle Ridge and being chased towards Suffolk again by the long lens tribe.
